We think that it might be fun to follow the progress of our new home, the Canvasback Handiranch. This curious title was coined by daughters, Meghan and Meredith, to poke fun at our "no-step entry and wide doorways" - features that are common to senior living. The house is located on Canvasback Circle; and, o

Go, Pack!

As anyone, who is remotely tuned into what is happening in the world knows, the Green Bay Packers are headed to the Super Bowl.  This is a BIG DEAL for all rabid and not-so-rabid Packer fans.  On the corner of a well-traveled street near our current home, one fan has erected a huge Lombardi Trophy.  One cannot miss it--the traffic slows, some cars stop--and, as you can see, some people even stop to take a photo.  There are banners and yard signs on houses, there is a Packer-decorated car from one of the local car dealers that is seen from time to time on TV, there are recycled Christmas trees in front yards that are decorated with pennants, lights, and green and gold balls, the local paper is full of every imaginable story that can be told with every picture that has ever been taken of this team and every other Packer team since Super Bowl I.  The sports bars are setting up for all of the fans who will spend the day planted in front of the large TV's.  Some of those fans will take their own recliners and sofas and stake out their spot on the floor, all waiting to be served the favorite beverage of Packer fans---BEER!  Packer attire is becoming harder and harder to find, and almost anyone and everyone is decked out in the green and gold. There are pot lucks in the workplace, and everyone has something to say about the outcome of the game.  There is also money to be made on the pools--if one is lucky.  Can't wait.

Even the local super markets are into the spirit.  I am not sure that anyone has dared remove one of these peppers from the display---it is sacred. There must be another place in the store to get peppers!  As the big day approaches, the grocery stores will be "packed" with people shopping for the necessary food and a LOT of the requisite BEER!  The pizza delivery guys will have their biggest delivery day of the year.  And, on the days leading up to the game, the radio and TV stations will be consumed with telling us every last detail of every happening in Texas (ie, what BJ Raji eats for breakfast)--we will miss nothing.  On the day of the game, the streets will be silent, the town will be silent, and all we will hear is the roar of the fans as they celebrate their Packers.

Frigid...-35 degrees wind chill

The day in Appleton was bitter once again.  No working on the house today.   Not only is it too cold for the workers, but the power equipment does not work.

However, more lumber was delivered and the sheeting is there as well, so things are continuing to move along.

a day of decisions...

A trip to Milwaukee to choose the lighting fixtures was very successful.  The task is finished.  We had a nice lunch with Meghan after she helped us with the decision process.

what is happening on Canvasback....

This is the end of week two.  The basement walls are cured and are back-filled. The mountains of earth are going away---no more sledding on those dirt hills now; although we do have a fair amount of new snow.

let it snow no more

The  electric service box has been installed and we are hopeful that we will hear the sound of pneumatic nail guns as the framing starts next week.

We have been working with our favorite flooring expert, Becky, from D & M Flooring;  and the choices have been made.  The trip to Milwaukee this coming week will allow us to finish the lighting fixture decisions.
